Anna Holley "Dollar-A-Week" Pledge Program
Faced with mounting
debts, the Repertory was searching for solutions to ward off potential
disaster. Board Member, Anna Holley, came to the DRT offices and
told us she had an idea that might help the situation, a little
anyway. She wondered if it would be worthwhile to start a "dollar
a week" pledge program for the Repertory. Her church had run
one for a church project that was quite successful. Of course, the
amount raised was not huge but it brought in more money than anyone
would have expected. "Why not try?" was the answer.
January 14,
1999 we announced the Anna Holley "Dollar-A-Week" Pledge
Program. The cornerstone of our approach was a direct nightly appeal
to our audiences. Since its inception the Anna Holly "Dollar
A Week" Pledge Program has raised over $585,000 and is still counting. The pledge program is firmly established.
The Detroit Repertory Theatre has stemmed deficits and now
is operating with a small cash reserve.
We are no longer consumed by defensive strategies and have returned
to a more resourceful, offensive stance.
If you appreciate
the Detroit Repertory Theatre's cultural contributions and the long,
arduous cultural journey the Theatre has traveled, you can help
the Theatre stay the course by considering a "dollar-a-week"
pledge.

Guardian Pledge Program
The Guardian Pledge Program is conducted by the Detroit Repertory Theatre Legacy and Growth Committee whose quest is to guard the Theatre’s legacy and enable the Repertory to serve the generations ahead.
The Committee encourages support from individuals, civic and charitable organizations, clubs, groups and businesses who appreciate the Repertory’s 50 year contribution to Metropolitan Detroit’s cultural life and want to become a part of the Theatre’s future.
The question for the DRT right now is not only short term survival but long term survival as well. The reins of the Theatre cannot be passed to the next generation of visionaries unless the current level of operation is expanded and raised. The next generation will not make the same sacrifices as the founders, nor should that be expected. It makes no sense to return to the beginning.
Funds generated by the Guardian Program are part of the Repertory’s Capacity Building efforts to enlarge the Repertory operational, educational, and spatial capacity in order to pass the reins and serve the cultural needs of our growing constituency,
The Detroit Repertory Theatre is 50 years old. The roots of the non-profit Theatre’s remarkable cultural, social and civic journey were planted in a neighborhood based at the geographic center of Detroit. The Repertory, like a determined ghetto tree, grew above the ashes and decay to become a major player in Detroit’s cultural life.
From inception the DRT mission has been to produce the best non-profit professional theatre possible, demonstrate the power of diversity acting in unity and fight, by example, the disturbing level of racism that still exists.
A Guardian Pledge is $500, no more or no less. The Legacy and Growth Committee invites all the culturally minded to join the Committee in its efforts to preserve the Repertory legacy and guard the Theatre’s future.
The Committee respectfully asks those who care about the DRTto support the Theatre by becoming a Detroit Repertory Guardian Pledger in 2008.
Guardianships are votes of confidence. The Repertory would deeply appreciate your vote.
