The Detroit Repertory
Theatres 46th season will officially get underway Thursday,
November 6, 2003 with the world premiere of the comedy, Here and
There, by the best selling author and humorist, Esther Blumenfeld.
Ms. Blumenfeld has collaborated on seven books and has written over
200 articles on the subject of humor. Here and There is her
first play and the Detroit Repertory Theatre presentation will be
the plays first professional production.
For those theatre patrons who like to play with words mixed with
clever insights and clever repartee that touches tender nerves,
Here and There will be a special treat. Becca who is Here, Aaron
who is There, Josh, their son the actor, and close friends, Teddy
and Sherlyn are a lovable combination of intelligence, wit, compassion
and tenderness. Here and There is refreshing theatre about
decent people being decent and caring. These are people you are
pleased to meet. You, too, will wish that Aaron was here.
Here and There is an unsentimental piece about love, decency
and undying friendship that proves that humor is a potent tool for
coping with life....and death.
Artistic Director, Bruce Millan, will direct Here and There.
Last year he staged the comic crowd pleaser What Next? Recently,
he received the rarely given Special Recognition award from the
Detroit Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) for
his outstanding dedication to serving the metro-Detroit community
in providing theatre that frequently presents important issues of
concern to women.
Mr. Millan has assembled an experienced cast which includes three
newcomers to the Repertory stage and two veterans. Two of the newcomers
are new to the Detroit Theatre scene. John Forman, who will portray
the recently deceased, Aaron, returns to Detroit after a prolonged
hiatus that included theatre work in Atlanta and Athens, Georgia,
New York City, westward to Berkley and San Francisco and includes
a stint in Reading, England. Jeff Thomakos who will portray the
son, Josh, has come back to Detroit from working in Minneapolis
and Chicago.
Amyre Makupson who will portray Aarons wife, Becca, is new
to the Rep stage but is by no means new to Detroiters. Amyre anchored
the news at Channel 50 for many years.
Veteran Rep actors Herman McCain and Milfordean Luster play Beccas
close friends, Teddy and Sherlyn, respectively. Herman was last
seen at the Rep as the Sheriff in Fast Ducks. Milfordean
has not been on the Rep stage since 1994. She is a longtime member
of the Repertory staff and is currently the Theatres Educational
Director. The whole Rep Theatre Company is pleased that she is back
on stage.
Here and There will open November 6, 2003, and run every
Thursday through Sunday until December 28, 2003 with no performances
Thanksgiving and Christmas.
For the 26th straight year there will be a special performance,
