About Annabella in July by Richard Strand

To celebrate their 20th anniversary, Vanessa and Brian take a road trip in hopes of reinvigorating a flagging marriage. Lost in the California mountains, they arrive at the restaurant of a ski lodge in the middle of July. The restaurant is open for business although Vanessa and Brian appear to be its only customers. Three locals encountered by the couple – the owner of the lodge, a teenage waitress, and a resident ski-bum with a French accent – recognize Vanessa as their very dear friend Annabella, even though Vanessa’s shy, mousy personality is nothing like the descriptions of the amazing, vivacious and magical Annabella. However, in trying to assert that she is in no way like Annabella, Vanessa discovers her own magical powers – powers that could either save or destroy her twenty-year marriage. ANNABELLA IN JULY is a fast paced comedy from Richard Strand, the playwright who wrote THE REALIZATION OF EMILY LINDER, BUTLER, and BUZZ.

About the Rep

The Detroit Repertory Theatre, affectionately known as "the Rep", is Michigan’s longest running, nonprofit, professional (union) theatre located in the geographical heart of the city of Detroit. For over 60 years now, the Rep has been committed to producing the finest professional, diversity centered theatre while utilizing indigenous professional artists and providing cultural enrichment opportunities to all segments of the population of southeast Michigan. At the Rep, it has always been about the people. Its effort to reach everyone by ensuring that the price of admission is affordable and accessible to the community at-large is foremost. Since 1957, long before it became fashionable, the Rep has been committed to demonstrating the power of diversity acting in unity.

All funds raised from this benefit will be used by the Detroit Repertory Board to help support the Detroit Rep Theatre and the community activities and events that it promotes, including the Annual Community Street Fair and the Legendary Actors' Workshop.

Detroit Repertory Theatre

The first professional (Union), nonprofit theatre
in the State of Michigan,
the Detroit Repertory Theatre's mission is guided
by the belief that the sense of community is stronger than
the forces that splinter
and that efforts to preserve unity
deserve the same attention and support
as the justly cultivated efforts to retain diversity.
The implicit goal in all the theatre's efforts is to
produce the best possible professional theatre
while fostering cultural democratization of the arts,
and fighting, by example,
the disturbing level of racism that still exists.
