Show and sell your art at the Detroit Repertory Theatre

Each season we host four solo or group shows of artwork by early or mid-career artists that complements each of the shows. There is no fee and the Rep takes no commission.

Primary Trust by Eboni Booth is the 2024 Pulitzer Prize Winner. By dad Kenneth sells books, by night he drinks mai tais at the tiki bar with his best friend, Bert. When he is laid off, he is forced into a world he has long avoided. Primary Trust is an achingly beautiful tale that celebrates friendship, connection, and small acts of kindness that can change a person’s life—and an entire community.

August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson is the 1991 Pulitzer Prize winner. Berniece and her brother Boy Willie fight over the fight of the family piano; she treasures it as a precious connection to their ancestors, and he sees it as the means to a more prosperous future. This fourth in the American Century Cycle is a haunting play about legacy.

Eclipsed by Danai Gurira is a Michigan premiere. Five extraordinary women struggle to negotiate power, protection, and peace as they fight to survive in the Liberian Civil War. From actress-playwright Danai Gurira (Black Panther, the Walking Dead), this gripping play unearths the wreckage of war, celebrating women navigating the most hostile of circumstances.

Spit in Your Face by Paul Heller and Alberto Lomnitz is a world premiere. As the only Mexican-American in a San Francisco theatre company, Liliana finds herself in the thorny position of having to realize the vision of two men, each of whom things he knows better than she does how to speak to the audience they serve. This bombastic new work is a hilarious look at modern politics and absurd theatre.

Gilda Snowden 1954 – 2014
Detroit Repertory Gallery
1987 – 2014 Curator

Gilda left us September 9, 2014. We were shocked and heartbroken. We lost a great Detroit Artist and a close friend of the Rep. She curated the Repertory Lobby Gallery into a prominent and important part of the Metropolitan Detroit visual artist community. As a token of profound respect the Repertory Gallery will henceforth be known as: The Gilda Snowden Gallery.

The Detroit Repertory Theatre Gilda Snowden Gallery is an alternative exhibition space for emerging and mid-career artists of the Metropolitan Detroit area. Space is given for one-person, two-person, or group theme shows of two-dimensional works of art. A new exhibit of original paintings and/or photographs is hung for each of the plays.

Michigan artists submit their portfolios. When chosen, their works are exhibited and sold during the run of each DRT production. Original paintings and photographs are displayed in the lobby of the Repertory throughout the DRT’s season. The Rep collects no commission.

If you’re interested in having your artwork displayed in the Gilda Gallery, please visit intshows.com/rep and fill out the form.
